NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) kicked off a fundraiser on Thursday as part of a partnership with the Vinny4 Foundation to raise money to fight pediatric cancer.
Salve Regina is one of 15 collegiate AMA chapters invited to participate in the “Unite 4 the Fight” text challenge, and is one of only six institutions contributing.
“Our goal is to raise at least $3,000,” said Dr. Nadia Abgrab, associate professor of business studies and economics, and AMA advisor, “which will be shared between Camp Hope Rhode Island and the Vinny Lecavalier Foundation [of St. Petersburg, Fla.].”
The Vinny4 Foundation was created in 2003 by National Hockey League player Vinny Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Salve Regina’s fundraiser kicked off with a group “text-a-thon” open to all in the community. To raise awareness for the cause on campus, there will be an EA Sports NHL ’12 Challenge for students on Nov. 2.
To donate to the effort, text a $10 donation to Vinny4SRU at 50555 by Nov. 12.
