NEWPORT, R.I. - The University Gallery is presenting a selection of unique art books from the Rhode Island School of Design collection, which will run from March 18 to April 11. An opening reception for the exhibit is tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery, located in the Antone Academic Center, Lawrence Avenue.
The exhibit,’ “RISD Artists’ Book Collection,” will showcase 16 rare art books, including “Cartesian Dreams” by Judith Mohns and Francois Deschamps, 1994; “Overshadowed” by Russell O. Jones, 1958; “Reptiles” by Rand Huebsch 1996; “Aunt Sallies’ Lament” by Margaret Kaufman and Claire Van Vliet, 2004; “Forest Poem” by Paul Johnson, 1995; “Domestic Science” by Nance O’Banion and Julie Chen, 1990.
The RISD Artists’ Book Collection includes nearly 1,400 hand-made book objects, limited edition books and zines dating from the mid-1960s to present. These works of art in book form offer unique resources for research, personal study and inspiration. The collection also includes archives of internationally known book artists.
Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
