SRU Dance's spring performance, ‘Tonight is the Night!,’ is April 9-10

Thursday, March 24, 2011
NEWPORT, R.I. – The SRU Dance Club, Salve Regina’s student-run dance organization, will present its spring performance, “Tonight is the Night!” on Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10, in the Rodgers Recreation Center on Webster Street.

Admission to Saturday’s performance, which begins at 7 p.m., is a minimum $1 donation to the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Admission to Sunday’s performance, which begins at 1 p.m., is $5. Children young enough to sit on an adult’s lap are admitted free for both performances.

This year’s spring performance will include more than 30 dances ranging from hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, Irish step and ballet. The club boasts over 100 performers dancing to the music of Chris Brown, Michael Bublé, Jessie J, OneRepublic and more.

Proceeds from Saturday’s performance support the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Rizzo, a dancer and childhood cancer survivor who was killed by a drunk driver at age 24, was a Salve Regina graduate. The foundation in her name raises money for children’s cancer research through dance therapy programs.

The SRU Dance Club raised $1,100 for the foundation during its fall performance and another $700 over the summer at the Andrea Rizzo Cliff-Walk-A-Thon. SRU Dance is the largest student-run organization at Salve Regina.
