NEWPORT, R.I. – Jay Lacouture, professor of art, will give a Sabbatical Lecture Presentation on his recent work as a visiting artist in China on Wednesday, March 24, at 5 p.m. in the DiStefano Lecture Hall, located in the Antone Academic Center on Lawrence Avenue.

Free and open to the public, Lacouture’s illustrated talk, “Jingdezhen – The Porcelain City,” will portray his experiences living and working in a land where ceramics is at the center of the cultural and economic heartbeat of the community. Jingdezhen has been a center for porcelain production for 2,500 years.

Lacouture worked in Jingdezhen as a visiting artist for five weeks last fall as part of the West Virginia University/Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute International Ceramic Program.
