NEWPORT, R.I. – Dr. Veronica Rynn, an impassioned Argentine tango dancer and adjunct faculty member in Salve Regina’s nursing department, will present a dance performance during intermission at the Sunday, Feb. 26 showing of the Academy Awards at the Jane Pickens Theater, 49 Touro St.
The Friends of the Jane Pickens Theater are presenting “Red Carpet Gala: Award Night at the JPT” at 7 p.m. The show will feature a live broadcast from Hollywood of the Oscars telecast, preceded by the popular parade of movie stars on the red carpet outside the Kodak Theater.
Rynn, who serves as faculty advisor for the Salve Latin and Tango Club, offers beginner and intermediate Argentine dance classes at Newport’s Edward King Senior Center. These classes are popular among area senior citizens, members of the public and members of the Salve Regina community.
A Newport resident, Rynn discovered tango with her husband while they lived in Connecticut. Soon after, she started taking lessons and continues to periodically attend workshops throughout the country. She’s hoping to travel to Buenos Aires, the birthplace of tango, for more intensive study.
Rynn received her doctor of chiropractic degree and her master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. She has been an adjunct faculty member at Salve Regina since 2009.
