Liturgical Ministries

Our Sunday celebrations of the Eucharist are greatly enhanced by collaboration with members of the Salve Regina community. There are various ways to participate in liturgical ministries and no prior experience is necessary.

Ways to participate:

  • Proclaim the Scriptures as a lector.
  • Assist as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
  • Join the Music Ministry. Singers and instrumentalists needed.
  • Serve as a minister of hospitality.
  • Share your creativity as a minister of art and environment.
  • Help as the sacristan or server at the Lord's Table.

We rely on those who attend the weekday Eucharistic celebrations to serve in these roles. Please speak with us if you are able to help.

Liturgy and Worship Schedules

Roman Catholic Eucharist is celebrated in the chapel of Ochre Court.

  • Weekdays - 12:30 pm Monday through Thursday
  • Sundays - 11:30 am and 7:00 pm

Other prayer opportunities, such as Taize prayer services, are scheduled each semester.

There are many faith communities in Newport. If you need assistance getting connected to your faith community, please let us know. We will be happy to help you.

Bible Study

Is the Word of God active in your life? Depending on interest, students can meet with other students in the context of a small faith community to reflect on the Sacred Scriptures or you can participate in a study group that will examine specific books or themes of the Bible. This is a wonderful way to learn more about the Bible and to integrate the Word of God into your daily life. Bibles and study resources are provided.

Sacramental Preparation and Joining the Catholic Church

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a program for persons who have a desire to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation (the sacraments of initiation) in the Roman Catholic Church. It is a process that enables you to become a member of the Catholic Church or to complete sacramental instruction if you are already baptized in the Catholic Church. Members of the Salve Regina University community journey and study with students who wish to make this commitment. R.C.I.A. begins in the fall semester and culminates in April. During the course of the year you will belong to a faith filled and caring community. You will grow in your understanding of scripture, sacraments, prayer and the church. And, you will deepen your relationship with God.
