Counseling Services

Counseling services are available to all full-time undergraduate students. Services are designed to assist students with social, emotional, academic and psychological issues so that they are able to remain in school and benefit from their educational opportunities to the fullest extent possible.

Our services include individual counseling, group counseling, consultations with faculty and staff, referral services, special programs and crisis intervention. Individual and group counseling is provided in an environment that is conducive to discussion of any concern or problem and confidential in accordance with health care regulations and professional guidelines for the State of Rhode Island. There are no fees for counseling services.

Education, prevention and advocacy are our other focuses. Sponsored programs include:

  • National depression, alcohol, anxiety and eating disorder screenings, conducted annually.
  • Outreach services for small group and classroom discussion.
  • In-service training for faculty and staff.
  • Summer orientation program.
  • Adviser to VIRGO (Volunteers Invested in Reaching and Guiding Others), a peer education program where students plan and implement programs to raise awareness to college-related issues.
  • Wild Divine, an interactive bio-feedback program to reduce stress and teach the relaxation response.

Health information is confidential and cannot be released without written permission. Upon beginning counseling, students will be given an informed consent form, which will describe their privacy rights.
