Salve Regina offers an undergraduate major and minor in environmental/sustainable studies (bachelor's degree in biology with a concentration in environmental studies).
A wide range of Salve Regina's undergraduate and graduate courses integrate social and environmental responsibility throughout the semester. More than 40 undergraduate courses and seven graduate courses focus on the environment. In addition, courses in the core curriculum address social and environmental responsibility.
Non-course and off-campus curricula that integrate social and/or environmental responsibility include the Pell Center lecture series, the study abroad program, Earth Day and Office of Residential Life programming.
Clean Ocean Access started testing the water quality in Newport and Middletown in the fall of 2006 as part of a long term goal of permanent clean water along the Aquidneck Island shoreline. The goal of the current program is to establish baseline water quality at seven popular swimming locations that are not considered "designated swimming areas".
Salve Regina students taking BIO 399 Environmental Quality participate in the Clean Ocean Access water testing every Thursday morning during the academic year.
