The Salve Regina Department of Art offers a unique opportunity to study the visual arts within the context of a strong liberal arts education. We are one of a select group of accredited members of the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD) who devote themselves exclusively to a BA curriculum with a major in Studio Art or Art History with concentrations in ceramics, graphic design, photography, painting & drawing. We also offer an interdisciplinary major in Interactive Communication Technology that stresses the use of technology in an increasingly visual world.
Our students pursue internships in regional museums and galleries; ad agencies and studios as a practical opportunity to enhance their educational experience. The art faculty is a very dedicated group of teaching artists who lead by their example in the classroom, as well as their careers as productive art professionals.
When asked the question, "What can I do with an art degree from Salve Regina?" we answer in all candor that our students are "excellent problem solvers" who have been exposed to the relevance of the visual arts in contemporary culture. The problem solving skills that our graduates have acquired have led them to careers as art and design professionals in a variety of areas as well as positions in some of the finest graduate programs across the country.
** We do not require a portfolio for admission. All prospective applicants are accepted to the University at large. Freshmen present their portfolio formally to the faculty at the end of their freshman year for official admission to the art program. |
