Coach Sean Foster

Sean Foster begins his eighth season as head men's basketball coach at Salve Regina University in 2009-10 following three years as an assistant coach, during which time the Seahawks captured the 1999-2000 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season crown.

The Seahawks won 14 games in 2008-09, advanced to the semifinals of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) tournament, and earned the program's first-ever Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament berth. Salve Regina finished the regular-season 13-12 (8-5 TCCC) to earn the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. In one of the most exciting games ever played at Rodgers Recreation Center, the Seahawks outlasted No. 5 Nichols in double-overtime, 102-99, to advance to the semifinals. Facing No. 1 seed University of New England in the semis, the Seahawks gave the Nor'easters all they could handle before suffering a 77-75 loss. Days later, the Seahawks were selected to participate in the ECAC Tournament, where they fell to No. 1 seed Lasell, 89-84.

While Foster won a career-high 17 wins in 2005-06, many would consider his 2008-09 coaching performance to be his best. The Seahawks won only six games in 2007-08 and were picked to finish 10th in the preseason coaches' poll, but behind the play of First Team All-TCCC guard Justin Woodworth and All-TCCC Honorable Mention guard Windell Hinkson, the Seahawks finished six spots higher. Salve Regina finished the season 14-14, putting Foster's career record at 85-97.

In addition to his coaching duties, Foster also serves as the athletic department's Scheduling Coordinator and handles game management for volleyball and baseball. He also previously served as an admission's counselor at SRU.

Prior to his arrival at Salve Regina, Foster spent one season as an assistant coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology. He helped the Leopards capture a Commonwealth Coast Conference championship with a school-record 22 wins and a berth in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England men's basketball tournament. He also previously worked as an operations administrator for Fidelity Investments.

A 1997 graduate of Salve Regina University, Foster played three years for the Seahawks after transferring from Westbrook College (Maine), where the team won the Mayflower Conference with a 30-5 record and advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. He helped the Seahawks advance to the NCAA Tournament in 1994-95 after posting a 20-8 record and capturing the CCC championship.

A Dean's List student at Salve Regina, Foster earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and received both the University's Sportsmanship Award and the Commonwealth Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award following his senior season.
