Salve Regina University

FAQ's

Can you tell me about Salve Regina's campus?

Our beautiful campus is located on the ocean in Newport, Rhode Island (http://www.newportonline.com), an historic New England seaport rich in cultural, recreational and educational opportunities with easy access to Providence, Boston, and Worcester. Newport is recognized all over the world as a top-notch destination, and is the site of many festivals and events all throughout the year. At Salve Regina University, we enroll 2,200 men and women from 40 states and 24 foreign countries and have over 13,000 alumni and alumnae.

How is the basketball program?

Our men's basketball team plays a highly competitive Division III schedule throughout New England. In our 2001-2002 campaign we achieved the first ECAC Tournament bid in school history recording a 20-9 record. As we move forward, we will continue to strive for our goal, which is to be one of the most successful programs in New England. Winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference would allow us an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament, and that is something we reach for every year. The complete schedule of our games is listed on our website and it may be helpful for you to come see us play while you visit the campus.

Can I make the team if I'm not recruited?

As a Division III program we hold open try-outs for all of our sports teams. We do not have athletic scholarships and returning players must earn a spot on the team every year. Our men's basketball staff does recruit heavily throughout the year to find talent that suits our style of play. If you are interested in attending Salve Regina University and competing in men's basketball, please fill out a questionnaire and send a copy of your high school schedule and a game tape if you have one. Our staff would be pleased to evaluate you.
