Coach Steve Cirella

Steve Cirella begins his 11th season at the helm of the Salve Regina University baseball program in 2009-10. During his tenure, the Seahawks have captured a pair of The Commonwealth Coast Conference championships, advanced to both the ECAC and NCAA Tournaments twice, and captured an ECAC Championship.

A two-time TCCC Coach of the Year, Cirella owns a career record of 230-155-2, including a school-record 32 wins in 2006. He guided the Seahawks to their sixth-consecutive 20-win season in 2008, and this past season, took the No. 4 seed Seahawks to the second round of the conference playoffs. They rebounded from a loss to No. 5 Endicott to eliminate No.7 Colby-Sawyer, and then pushed No. 1 Curry to the brink of elimination before falling, 7-6.

In addition to his duties as Director of the Jamestown Baseball School, Cirella has also served as head coach of the Coventry (R.I.) High School varsity baseball team and coached teams in both the George Donnelly Sunset League and American Legion.

Cirella played football at both the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and the University of Rhode Island, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1979 and his Master of Science in 1985, respectively.

Cirella resides in Jamestown, R.I., with his wife, Lori, and their son, Steven, Jr. His son, Eric (Salve Regina '05), was a four-year member of the Seahawk baseball team and is currently an assistant baseball coach at URI. His daughter, Rachael (SRU '09), was a four-year member of the Seahawk volleyball program.
