Seahawks Tabbed Ninth in TCCC Coaches Poll

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University men's basketball team was picked to finish ninth in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Seahawks - who received 91 total points - return four student-athletes from last season's 14-14 squad (8-5 TCCC) which advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament and was selected into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. Already dealing with the loss of leading-scorer and all-conference selection Justin Woodworth to graduation, head coach Sean Foster is also looking to replace the scoring and play-making ability of junior tri-captain Windell Hinkson (Groton, Conn.), who will miss the season due to injury. Without Hinkson, the leading-returning scorer and rebounder is sophomore Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) at 9.5 ppg and 6.6 rpg.

Gordon College topped the poll with 172 points and five first-place votes, followed by Colby-Sawyer with 169 points and five first-place votes. Defending tournament champion University of New England was tabbed third with 166 points and two first-place votes while Wentworth (144 points; one first-place vote) and Roger Williams (130 points) round out the top five.

Endicott and Nichols both received 123 points to tie for sixth-place, followed by Curry (118 points; one first-place vote), the Seahawks, Western New England (82 points), Regis (62 points), Anna Maria and Eastern Nazarene (35 points), and New England College (20 points).

The Seahawks open the 2009-10 season on Monday, Nov. 16 when they host Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m.
