Pallotto Earns TCCC Honors for Third Time in 2009

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's cross country freshman Paige Pallotto (Woodbridge, Conn.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Runner and Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

Pallotto led the Seahawks and placed fifth overall with a time of 19:11 on the 5K course at the Pop Crowell Cross Country Invitational in Wentham, Mass. on Saturday. As a team, the Seahawks placed third out of 27 schools and were the top TCCC finisher.

"We went into the race hoping to maintain the momentum we have gained over the past few weeks. Over a very wet and at times slippery course, the women did very well, placing third in a 31-team field," said assistant coach Matthew Hird of the race. "Individually, Paige Pallotto placed fourth out of a field of 290. Despite the steady rain and unsure footing, many of our runners recorded seasonal personal record's, while others were just seconds off. More instructively, we beat four of the top five teams in the conference, which bodes well for our chances in four weeks."

The Seahawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 17 when they race at Western New England in Springfield, Mass. The race begins at 10:30 a.m.
