NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior quarterback Jeff St. Onge (Kingston, N.H.) has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Player of the Week. He shares the honor with Justin Fuller of Bridgewater State College and Dave Leach of Framingham State.
St. Onge completed 20-of-26 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 87 yards and another score to lead the Seahawks to a 43-20 win over Endicott College on Saturday. St. Onge established a new Salve Regina single game record with his .769 completion percentage and tied his own school record for passing touchdowns in one game (four). His favorite target on the afternoon was sophomore Michael Dargan (Meriden, Conn.), who hauled in a school-record 224 receiving yards and scored touchdowns of 75 and 68 yards, respectively.
"This was the most complete game that Jeffrey has played since his time here," said Seahawk head coach Chris Robertson. "Our offense has been effective this year with Jeff's decision-making in both the run game and the pass game. This is hopefully a turning point for him in his maturation as a college QB as we head into the bulk of our league play."
On defense, sophomore Shane Lange (Branford, Conn.) was named to the NEFC Honor Roll. He recorded 10 tackles, four quarterback hurries, and one sack in the win. "Shane had a solid game for us and some key pressures on the Endicott QB," said Robertson. "His motor is non-stop and he is effective in both the run game and the pass game. As he develops as an OLB, he will become one of the best in the conference."
The Seahawks (2-2, 1-0 NEFC) return to action on Saturday when they travel to Milton, Mass. for a noon contest with Curry.
