Ginthwain, Ernst Honored by TCCC

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer senior goalkeeper Kurt Ginthwain (Tolland, Conn.) and freshman back Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) were named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Ginthwain posted a pair of shutouts for the Seahawks (2-2) last week. He opened the week with a four-save effort - including one on a penalty kick - in a 2-0 win over Coast Guard on Wednesday, and stopped five shots against New England College in a 1-0 win in the conference opener on Saturday. On the season, Ginthwain is 2-2 with a 0.75 goals against average (GAA) and an .850 save percentage.

Ernst, meanwhile, helped anchor a defensive unit which did not allow a goal in a pair of wins and also netted the game-winning goal - the first of his collegiate career - in a win over the Bears.

Ginthwain's selection marks the third time in his career he has been honored by TCCC. Last season, he was named TCCC Player of the Week on two occasions. Ernst is a TCCC honoree for the first time.

The Seahawks return to action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Newbury for a 3:30 pm match.
