NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's tennis head coach Ed Habershaw has announced that senior Jessica Timpano (Narragansett, R.I.) will serve as team captains for the 2009 season.
"Jessica Timpano joined our squad in the spring of her freshman year, and made an immediate positive impact with her endearing personality," said Habershaw, who is entering his 16th season at the helm of the women's tennis program. "While taking the sport seriously, she sets a great example by making sure she has fun and allows her teammates to enjoy the game."
Timpano played 10 singles matches at No. 2 singles last season, where she posted a 5-5 mark (4-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference). She also teamed up with junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) at No.1 doubles, and the duo recorded a 7-3 mark in conference play.
"Jessica also performs well in the classroom, helping our women's tennis program to record the most improved grade point average after the most recent spring semester," Habershaw added. “Our players have plenty of resources with coaching, athletic training, fitness, and our administration. Jessica adds to that as a peer resource."
The Seahawks open their season with a match at Wheaton Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
