NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey contest against Salem State College on Tuesday, September 8 has been moved from the Lawrence Avenue Field (on-campus) to Gaudet Field in Middletown. The contest will still be played at 4 p.m.
"Our team is very excited to be the first Salve Regina team to play a home contest at Gaudet," said head coach Jen Eldridge. "This facility is what our program has been dreaming of for years. It will allow us to better compete with the other teams on our schedule that have field turf. Like any surface, it will take some getting used to, but I am confident that our team play and skills will improve greatly by having the opportunity to play and practice at Gaudet."
The Seahawks (1-1) opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Wheaton College on Tuesday, but rebounded to post a 2-0 shutout win against Framingham State in their home opener on Thursday.
Located at Middletown High School, Gaudet Field was fitted with 'FieldTurf' this past summer. The Seahawk football team will play their home contests there this season, beginning with their home opener against Hartwick on Saturday, September 12. Several other athletic programs at Salve Regina will also have access to the field for both practice and games.
