Seahawks Name Johnson, Carroll, and Cannon Captains

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer head coach Craig O'Rourke II has announced that senior back Gregory Cannon (Marshfield, Mass.), along with juniors Billy Carroll (Babylon, N.Y.) and Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.), will serve as team captains for the 2009 season.

"These are the young men we're hoping will teach and lead our first-year players going forward this season," said O'Rourke.

Cannon appeared in all 20 games last season (19 starts) and recorded two assists. His solid defense helped the Seahawks hold opponents to a 1.15 goals against average and record nine shutouts.

Johnson, meanwhile, played in 18 games (12 starts) in the midfield and tied for second on the team with four goals. His nine points ranked him third on the squad. Carroll started all 20 games in the midfield and recorded five points (2-1-5).

The Seahawks (0-1) - who opened their season with a 2-0 loss at MIT on Thursday - return to action on Saturday when they host Mass.-Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m.
