NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer head coach Kerri Scroope has announced that senior forward Jen Duval (Dudley, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.) will serve as team captains for the 2009 season.
"Jen and Katie were sophomores when I took over this program and have grown tremendously as players and young women," said Scroope. "They are successful both on and off the field and push their teammates every day to do well on field and in the classroom. They will be leading 19 underclassmen and are ready to lead their team to in making some noise in the TCCC."
Duval led the Seahawks in goals (seven) and points (17) last season. In the season opener on Tuesday night, Duval recorded an assist on the Seahawks first goal in their 2-1 win at WPI. Vaudrain - who played all 1705:33 minutes last season, posting a 2.32 goals against average and a .749 save percentage made seven saves to earn the win against the Engineers.
The Seahawks (1-1) hope to rebound from a 3-1 loss at Bridgewater State Thursday night when they host Fitchburg State Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
