Seahawks Name Michel, Eppley Captains

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University field hockey coach Jennifer Eldridge has announced that senior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.) and senior midfielder Andrea Michel (Yarmouth, Maine) will serve as team captains for the 2009 season.

"As their coach, I feel a special bond with Andrea and Devin. They will be the first players I graduate who I have coached for all four years of their career," said Eldridge. "Andrea and Devin served as co-captains last year and will lead our team again this year. Both of them are hardworking and committed to our team goals and will do whatever it takes to ensure our team's success. They serve as great role models by showing our underclassmen what it takes to be a successful student-athlete."

Eppley posted a 6-13 record with a 1.98 goals against average, an .822 save percentage, and one shutout for the Seahawks last season. Michel, meanwhile, started all 20 games and recorded three assists.

Salve Regina opened its season with a 2-1 loss at Wheaton on Tuesday. Eppley made 11 saves while Michel recorded two shots. On Thursday night, the Seahawks blanked Framingham State 2-0 to even their record at 1-1. Eppley recorded three saves in the win.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they host Eastern Connecticut State at noon.
