NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer head coach Craig O'Rourke II has named Kevin Algozer as his Second Assistant Coach.
A 2007 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Algozer was a four-year member of the men's soccer team, where he was a teammate of current SRU assistant coach Joel Dargan. During his final two seasons in the Keaney blue and white, he helped anchor a defense that held Atlantic 10 opponents to just 2.7 shots on goal per game.
"I am extremely pleased and very excited to have Kevin join our staff this season," said O'Rourke. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience to our program and I know that our players will benefit greatly from all that he has to offer them."
At URI, Algozer sat out his redshirt season in 2003 and appeared in two games as a freshman in 2004. He cracked the starting lineup midway through his sophomore season and ended up starting 15 of the 16 games appeared in. He finished his career with 61 games played - including 54 starts - and was selected to the 2006 UMass Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Algozer previously served as head coach at the 2008 Rhode Island Elite Overnight Academy and also coached at the 2008 Rhode Island Advanced Day Academy. He also participated in the training of Rams FC youth soccer teams in 2006 and 2007, when he earned his Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science. Algozer is scheduled to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from URI in May, 2010.
The Seahawks open the 2009 season on Thursday, September 3 at MIT. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
