Effective teacher traits, along with innovative instructional methodologies and assessment measures, are my primary research interests. Highly effective teachers are optimistic, enthusiastic, organized and demand academic rigor, among other traits. These educators incorporate varied instructional methodologies in order to meet the diverse needs of all learners, monitor student achievement on a regular basis using an array of assessment measures, and create a physically and emotionally safe classroom climate conducive to academic achievement for all learners.
The education profession is in need of more highly effective teachers and school leaders. The secondary education program welcomes students who want to make a difference and who care about the individuality and integrity of each learner. Teacher education candidates should strive to create classrooms that are harmonious, just and merciful. The program strives to engage students as reflective practitioners in the process of theorizing about educational purposes and reform initiatives. The hope is that, as a result of secondary coursework, students will choose to participate in the larger social discourses regarding high school reform and do so from a position that thoughtfully integrates theory and practice as well as research and experience. Important to the University's mission and critical to courses and fieldwork is paying attention to the diverse needs of individual learners and having a game plan to help all students achieve academic
success.
