College Democrats
College
Democrats represents the Democratic Party and progressive views among students
at Salve Regina. They strive to get students involved in electoral campaigns, lobbying,
community service and political education and work to engage and mobilize the Salve
Regina campus to grow a large, diverse and closely connected political
community and group of friends.
The club invites speakers for discussions and lectures,
engages in political debates on campus, attends social and political events to
meet Rhode Island Democratic leaders and candidates, and builds links with
chapters of College Democrats at other institutions.
College Republicans
College Republicans gives students the chance to get
involved with the political issues affecting their lives and participate in
events with candidates, community leaders and fellow students at Salve Regina and
other schools. Their goal is to represent the Republican Party and conservative
views among Salve Regina's student body and create strong links with other
chapters of College Republicans across the state and the country.
The club brings together students who enjoy debating
political issues, taking part in service efforts (such as Books for Troops),
and seeking thoughtful solutions to the great challenges facing our nation.
Honor Society
Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor
society, recognizes and promotes scholarship and intelligent interest in
political science. Outstanding seniors are inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha each
spring.
Model United Nations Club
The Model United Nations Club gives students the opportunity
to get involved in world politics and foreign affairs outside the classroom. Club
members attend competitive, intercollegiate conferences where they represent
the policy positions of real countries debating and negotiating a wide range of
political, economic, legal, social and environmental issues. This active and
demanding club sends delegations to several conferences each year. Regular club
meetings allow students to hone debating skills, share international interests,
and prepare for conferences.
Political Science Club
The Political Science Club
provides students with the opportunity to expand their knowledge outside the
classroom and participate in politics at the local, state, national and
international levels. A non-partisan, educational organization, the club brings
together students who share a love of politics to discuss important domestic
and foreign issues and events. The club hosts guest speakers from local and
state government, nonprofit agencies, and other universities and sponsors an
annual fundraiser benefiting a charity or cause chosen by club members.
