A special privilege is granted to Salve Regina students
who successfully complete the requirements for the B.S. in nursing. All
students graduating with a B.S. in nursing have the opportunity to purchase the
Mercy Nursing Pin.
The Mercy Nursing Pin is rich in the history and
tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, who founded Salve Regina. Nursing majors who
purchase the pin are welcomed into the family and community of prior nursing
graduates who have studied and learned following the traditions of the Sisters
of Mercy.
The color, pattern and design of the Mercy Nursing
Pin are adapted from the insignia of the Sisters of Mercy, known as the Mercy
Shield. The pin is an oval shape with four bars of gold, white and red,
surmounted by a cross. When word, the pin is easily recognizable and gives
testimony that the bearer has earned a B.S. in nursing from Salve Regina.
