Major in Spanish (B.A.)

Students majoring in Spanish take a minimum of 10 upper-level courses (30 credits). Majors are expected to maintain a 2.70 GPA in all courses applied to the major and are encouraged to spend a semester studying in Spain, Mexico, Argentina or another Spanish-speaking country.

Required courses:

  • Intermediate Spanish I and II
  • Conversation, Composition and Reading I and II
  • Latin American Culture and Civilization
  • Spanish Culture and Civilization
  • Masterpieces of Spanish Literature
  • Masterpieces of Latin American Literature

Students choose additional elective courses in consultation with the department chair.

Double Major in Spanish and Secondary Education (B.A.S.)

Students who select a double major in Spanish and secondary education complete the courses required for a bachelor's degree in Spanish, plus Teaching a Modern Foreign Language. Students must also meet the requirements for secondary education.

Minor in Spanish

Students completing a minor in Spanish take a minimum of six upper-level courses (18 credits).

Required courses:

  • Intermediate Spanish I and II
  • Conversation, Composition and Reading I and II
  • Latin American Culture and Civilization or Spanish Culture and Civilization
  • Masterpieces of Latin American Literature or Masterpieces of Spanish Literature

Students choose additional courses from a list of elective offerings as necessary.
