Major in French (B.A.)

Our French curriculum enables students to achieve aural, oral and written proficiency in the language. Courses not only cover grammar and composition, they also explore culture and civilization by examining French literature within its social, historical and cultural context. Additionally, courses in linguistics enhance students' language knowledge and skills.

From courses in grammar to those in literature, our Spanish curriculum allows students to develop their linguistic skills while gaining an appreciation for the cultures, civilizations, heritage and literature of the Spanish-speaking world.

Elective Language Courses

As part of the University's Core Curriculum requirement, students complete two sequential courses in the same language. In addition to French and Spanish, the following elective language courses are offered:

  • Elementary Italian I and II
  • Elementary Latin I and II
  • Elementary (Brazilian) Portuguese I and II
