Salve Regina’s
exploratory programs help students choose an academic major that best suits their
educational goals, abilities and the challenges they seek. The process of
declaring an undergraduate major should be enlightening and enjoyable, not
stressful. Our goal is to spark a curiosity about undergraduate education that
results in self-discovery and a positive educational experience that benefits students
for a lifetime.
We work with
students at all stages of their academic decision-making process, whether they
are undecided about which major to pursue, interested in changing majors, or
exploring a second major or minor to enhance their intellectual pursuits or
career options. We work with students individually and through group
programming, often in collaboration with other University offices.
Only through
research and guided reflection will students thoughtfully engage in the process
of selecting an academic major and take ownership of their education. Students
work with Departmental Liaisons and faculty in academic departments to get the information
necessary to select a major, including coursework, major requirements and extracurricular
opportunities.
Students can also work in concert with the Office of Career Development
to prepare and plan for their professional careers. Students who participate in
exploratory programs learn about the academic content, personal development and
the career/occupational possibilities that are a part of every major that Salve
Regina offers.
