Graduation Checklist

  • April: Purchase cap, gown and hood at the Salve Regina bookstore.
  • April 7-25: Commencement packet pickup: All graduating students must pick up their Commencement packets containing announcements and tickets between 9 a.m. and noon and 1-4 p.m. weekdays in the Commencement Office, located in McAuley Hall, Room 202. Graduate students may request to have their packet mailed by emailing commencement@salve.edu.
  • April 14: Commencement Ball tickets go on sale in the Office of Student Activities.
  • May 1: Final day to pay the graduation fee and settle any outstanding financial obligations to the University.
  • May 9: Final day to purchase Commencement Ball tickets.

Student Information

Graduation Fees and Financial Obligation

A graduation fee of $200 will be charged through the Business Office. Even if you choose not to participate in Commencement activities, this fee must be paid to defray the cost of announcements, diplomas, diploma cases, mailings and activities. This fee is automatically billed to your account and must be paid to the Business Office before Thursday, May 1.

In addition, all financial obligations to the University, including outstanding tuition, library fees, parking violations, etc., must be satisfied or the University will not allow you to participate in the Commencement ceremony. The University will not issue your diploma or final transcripts until your account is settled.

Financial Aid Loan Exit Interview

Undergraduates

Financial aid recipients are required to attend a loan exit interview if during their time at Salve Regina they received one or more of the following loans: Federal Perkins Loan, Nursing Student Loan, Federal Subsidized Stafford Student Loan or Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan.

Students may choose any session, but must attend one session. Students who do not attend an exit interview session will not receive their diplomas at Commencement.

Graduate students

Financial aid recipients may attend a loan exit interview if during their time at Salve Regina, they received one or more of the following loans: Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized Stafford Student Loan or Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan.

Graduate students and distance learners are welcome, but not required, to attend one of the sessions, but must complete the online exit interview to receive a diploma at Commencement.

Diplomas

During Commencement, all graduates will receive a ceremonial diploma cover. Actual diplomas will be available after the ceremony in the McAuley Hall lobby. Graduates who have completed their degrees should report to the lobby immediately after exiting the Commencement tent. Diplomas will be handed only to graduates with photo identification. Family members are asked to expedite the process by waiting outside the building.

Graduates may choose to receive their diplomas by mail. No special request is necessary. For those who choose not to pick up their diplomas after the Commencement ceremony, diplomas will automatically be mailed to the address listed by the graduate on the Application to Graduate.

Academic Attire

Undergraduates

Full academic regalia (including a cap) is required for all ceremonies: Honors and Awards, Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. Bachelor’s degree candidates must purchase a cap (with tassel), gown and hood at the Salve Regina bookstore.

Men should wear black shoes, black socks, dark trousers (preferably black), a white shirt, a dark tie, a black gown, a cap with black tassel and an honor cord if applicable. Women should wear black shoes, neutral stockings, a dress, a black gown, a cap with a black tassel and an honor cord if applicable. Hoods presented at the Baccalaureate Mass are worn at Commencement.

During the Commencement ceremony, only University-recognized cords, stoles or pins may be worn on the outside of the gown. Corsages or other ornamentation are not allowed.

Special Events

Commencement Week

All Commencement Week activities are designed for graduating seniors and their guests (where applicable) only. Tickets will be available beginning Monday, April 14, and the deadline to purchase tickets is 5 p.m. Friday, May 9.

With the exception of the Mohegan Sun bus trip, students are responsible for finding safe transportation to and from the events. Please plan accordingly.

Mohegan Sun bus trip

The bus will depart the Rodgers Recreation Center at 6 p.m. Monday, May 12 and will leave Mohegan Sun at midnight. Tickets are $10, which includes transportation, casino voucher and food voucher. Students may purchase one guest ticket for this event (guests may be non-students; all guests must be 21).

Senior social

By popular demand, this year’s senior social will be held at Dockside on Waite’s Wharf, beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. Cash bar, must be 21 and present valid ID. Tickets are $10. Students may purchase one guest ticket for this event (guests may be non-students; all guests must be 21).

Clambake

The clambake will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 on the Ochre Court patio/lawn. Tickets are $20, which includes a menu of lobster, chicken, stuffed quahog, steamers, corn on the cob, potatoes and more. Cash bar, must be 21 and present valid ID. Due to limited capacity, no guest tickets will be sold.

Commencement Ball

The 64th annual Commencement Ball for graduating seniors will be held Thursday, May 15 at the Newport Marriott Hotel. The event will begin with a reception at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 8 p.m. and dancing until 1 a.m. Attire for the occasion is formal. Tickets are $60 and are limited to the first 500 reserved. Students may purchase one guest ticket for this event (guests may be non-students).

Senior Cocktail Party

Hosted by the Office of Alumni/Parent Programs, the senior cocktail party will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 16 in Ochre Court. Tickets are $5, which includes two drink tickets, and may be purchased in the Office of Alumni/Parent Programs, located in Ochre Court, Room 316. Ticket sales are limited to one per senior until May 1. After that date, seniors may purchase additional tickets for family and friends.

Graduate Reception

Graduate students and their guests are invited to a reception honoring their accomplishments from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in Ochre Court. Formal invitations will be mailed in the spring.
