Cultural, Environmental and Global Studies
The Department of Cultural, Environmental and Global Studies prepares students to solve complex problems in a rapidly-evolving world. Our programs emphasize the development of a sense of global responsibility and an understanding of the causes of social injustice.
Through field research, study abroad, internships and other opportunities, our students learn how the world is shaped by economic, political, social and environmental processes. Students are then able to apply this knowledge within their communities and careers in ways that reflect the mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
Programs
Cultural and Historic Preservation (B.A., Minor)
The Noreen Stonor Drexel Cultural and Historic Preservation Program prepares students for careers that explore and protect the places, objects and stories that create our history. As one of only nine undergraduate programs recognized by the National Council for Preservation Education, Salve Regina University's curriculum provides a diverse foundation in the field's major disciplines, including architectural history, archaeology, museum studies and urban planning.
Environmental Studies (B.A., Minor)
Salve Regina University's bachelor's degree in environmental studies grows from our stated mission to act as stewards of the earth. The program exposes students to the broad range of issues that arise from the interaction of humans with the natural world, and to the tools required to understand and solve environmental problems.
Global Studies (B.A., Minor)
Salve Regina University's bachelor's degree in global studies offers students a unique academic program tailored to their creative and career interests. Through field research, study abroad, internships and other opportunities, students explore the economic, political, social and environmental processes that shape our world, preparing them to solve complex problems in a rapidly evolving global society.
Sociology and Anthropology (B.A., Minor)
Salve Regina University's bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology provides students with a robust platform for employment, civic engagement and graduate studies. Courses in each of the disciplines of sociology and anthropology use a global, comparative and multidisciplinary approach to the study of human social organization and cultural practices.
Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (Minor)
Social injustices are as old as society itself. Discrimination and violence based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality have mobilized a new generation of activists. Salve Regina University's minor in women, gender and sexuality studies aims to empower students with the tools necessary to interrogate power hierarchies, combat social inequities and fight for the dignity of individuals.
