Admitted International Students

Admitted International Students

The Center for Global Education and Fellowships supports prospective international students throughout the application process and assists admitted students with all pre-arrival steps, including travel documentation, applying for a visa and getting to Newport. We also host an international student orientation that helps make the transition to life at Salve Regina as smooth as possible.

General Checklist

Document Checklist

  • Passport with visa (most students have an F-1 or J-1 visa).
  • Salve Regina I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students). If you do not have F-1 or J-1 status, bring documents that confirm your immigration status.
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores, SAT and/or ACT scores and original transcripts in English from previous schools as applicable.
  • Proof of financial support and SEVIS fee receipt if appropriate.
  • If necessary, bring an international driver's license and English translations of marriage and birth certificates.

Health Services Checklist

  • Receive your COVID-19, MMR, hepatitis B, Tdap, meningitis and varicella immunizations and submit your completed health record through Salve Regina's student health portal.
  • Enroll in the required insurance plans by Aug. 1. Review both the accident and health policies that you receive in the mail.
  • Assemble a basic health care kit to bring with you. See the suggested list at the Mayo Clinic website.
  • Make copies of prescriptions (medications, eyeglasses/contacts) to bring with you.
  • Bring a month’s supply and a doctor’s prescription for any medication that you take regularly.
  • If applicable, find health care providers in the area that will provide care for specific needs (allergy shots, mental health, physical therapy, etc.).
  • Have your teeth cleaned one more time at home. Cleanings are not covered by insurance and are very expensive in the U.S.; the cost will probably be far less in your country.
  • If you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses, bring an extra pair in case of loss or accidental breakage.
